Hallelujah

George Clooney put on quite a show last Friday night.  The songs from the night from artists from Beyonce to Bono are available for download on iTunes and the proceeds benefit the Haiti relief effort.  If you only buy one, make it this one.

The song above was my favorite of the night, a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

Jeff Buckley actually sings the tune really well and so does Rufus Wainwright.

My man and I had an interesting conversation while we watched the show on Friday.  The question was “what would you play if you were invited to perform at the event?” Understand that this is a little like asking what dress would I have worn to the Golden Globes.  This, of course, assumes that I have a slammin’ actress bod, professional stylists, jewelers kissing up to me to wear their jewels, etc.  Similarly, the question above implies that I am a super talented diva with a band and perhaps a gospel choir to back me up.

Without much hesitation this was my answer.  The Pearl by Emmylou Harris. And if when I was called back for an encore I would sing “Orphan Girl.” The lyrics illustrate what I imagine some Haitian children and adults might feel after what happened. You can listen to that here.
