About

Wow. Just read the about page and it looks as though it hasn’t been updated in about five years.  A lot has changed in these five years (another baby, a different job) but a lot hasn’t (still love cereal, reading and reality TV).  One day I’ll update this page, but tonight is not the night.

Hey Jennifer, why is your blog called “Take the Day Off?”

Thanks for asking.

Reason #1: One rainy morning in January 2009, my boss called me into his office and shut the door.  He told me that the company had fallen upon hard times and that they were going to have to let some people go.  Unfortunately, he said, I was one of those people.  In my case, it was a “last in, first out” situation.  I was shocked and started crying. It was like a big punch in the stomach. And I wasn’t flexing.

“I tell you what,” he said as he put his hand on my shoulder.  “Why don’t you just take the rest of the day off.”

It was comical.  Despite my tears I laughed inside at the irony of his statement. He said it as if he was giving me a great gift. Did he expect me to return to my desk splotchy faced and snot nosed and finish out the day, billing the remainder of that Friday to the client?  Needless to say I gathered my things and did just that, I took the day off.

I wondered what sorts of things would I do with my new found “freedom.”  In the troubled economy I knew getting a new job wouldn’t be a cakewalk, so I imagined I would have some time on my hands.  I planned to take up yoga, see all the Oscar nominated movies before the award show, and become a vocal consumer (i.e. do my part to participate in the online products review world, ex. “I bought a pair of Champion sport socks.  They offer great support but they hug a bit around the ankles”).  Also on my list was to start a blog.

A year, a wedding and a fabulous new job later, I finally started a blog.   So far so good. I even managed to squeeze in a little yoga.

Reason # 2:  Two words:   Après-ski.   I happen to love weekends, days off, celebrations of any kind, holidays, birthdays, towel-time, downtime and uptime.  “Take the day off” just fits.

*****

This blog chronicles my day-to-day, thoughts on everything from music and pop culture to workout DVDs (and where they all collide), as well as the occasional kitchen adventures I encounter on my quest to be a dream wife to create healthy and delicious meals.

Visual: Here I am looking fancy with my straight hair all a curl. In this picture I am either surprised, laughing hysterically, or judging someone across the room—I can’t tell.

Want to know more about me?

Most days begin with a massive bowl of cereal, some coffee and the news…if you count the Today Show as news.  I am a freelance consultant and I (mostly) love what I do.  My favorite pastimes include reading, straight-up relaxing, spending time with my family, walking with friends, cooking, doing crosswords, listening to music and making people play board games and card games with me.  Sounds like I am applying for a dating service?  Well I’m not.  I am spoken for.  My Man and I celebrated six years of marital bliss last April and welcomed our first baby girl in May 2012 and our second baby girl in May 2015!  I love my chickadees to pieces. I absolutely adore My Man but I try not to gush about him too much on the blog…but sometimes it just slips out. Here we are dancing at our wedding.

To make up for the gratuitous wedding photo, here are two photos to level the playing field:

Dance-face and Christmas morning photos are universally unbecoming–the lowest common denominator of pictures.

Now we’re even.

Thanks for visiting my little place in cyberspace.  I like you. You are pretty.  Come back soon!

This is the funniest “about me” section I have ever read. And I think your Christmas-morning photo is adorable, but I always wondered if I was the only one who thought that I looked extremely dorky in all of mine.
