The Beginning

It was almost exactly a year ago, to the day, that my boss called me into his office and shut the door. He told me that the company had fallen upon hard times and that they were going to have to let some people go. Unfortunately, he said, I was one of those people. I was shocked and started crying. It was like a big punch in the stomach. And I wasn’t flexing.

“I tell you what,” he said as he put his hand on my shoulder. “Why don’t you just take the rest of the day off.”

It was almost comical. He said it as if he was giving me a great gift. As if I would have returned to my desk splotchy faced and snot nosed and finished out the day, billing the remainder of that Friday to the client. Needless to say I gathered my things and did just that, I took the rest of the day off.

What sorts of things would I do with my newfound “freedom?” In the troubled economy, I knew getting a new job wouldn’t be a cakewalk. I knew so many people who had been trying and failing to get a job and I just had that feeling that it would be the same for me too. Don’t get me wrong, this won’t affect my motivation in trying to find a job. Now that I’m out of a job, I am probably going to have a lot of time on my hands. So, a year, a wedding, and a new job later, here I am-finally starting a blog. Still haven’t done any yoga.
